International Women's Day: Celebrating Women in Science and Beauty

This One’s For The Girls
March 8th marks International Women's Day, a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women across the world. At FACTORFIVE, we understand the importance of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and want to take this opportunity to celebrate and recognize the contribution of women in these fields, and especially our own!

In recent years, the world has made significant progress in advancing gender equality, but there's still a long way to go. Women continue to be underrepresented in STEM careers and face various challenges such as a lack of female role models, gender bias, and a lack of access to education and training opportunities.

However, despite these challenges, women have made remarkable achievements in STEM fields and continue to lead the way in advancing science and technology. From Marie Curie, who was the first person to win two Nobel Prizes in different sciences, to Chien-Shiung Wu, who was known as the "First Lady of Physics," women have made significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology, and we LOVE to see it!

Meet The Women Behind The Science

The beauty industry has come a long way since the days of basic soap and water, and women scientists have been at the forefront of this progress. One of the reasons that women are so successful in creating skincare products is their unique understanding and perspective of beauty. Women have a keen understanding of the needs of their own skin and the skin of others, which allows them to create products that are tailored to meet these needs. Women understand women. Meet our team of female scientists who work tirelessly to bring you your favorite FACTORFIVE products:

Kristen

Kristen began working at FACTORFIVE Skincare in 2020 as our Cell Culture Scientist, specializing in creating our star ingredient, human stem cell conditioned media.

Kristen received her Bachelor's degree with honors as well as a minor in chemistry, and a Master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from California State University, Chico.

We asked Kristen why she chose to be a Stem Cell Scientist:

“When I started college as an undergrad I was really focused on medicine. Human anatomy and physiology have always been fascinating to me so I decided to get my degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. This exposed me to a wide variety of science classes and research. ”

Nicole Ho

Nicole is our newest scientist at FACTORFIVE Skincare, hired in October 2020 as our Formulation Chemist to bring all of our new skincare product formulations in-house.

Nicole received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from UC Davis and she's also attending the University of Southern California currently for her Master’s degree in Regulatory Science with a focus on Medical Product Quality.

We asked Nicole why she chose to become a formulation chemist:

“I didn’t have the best skin growing up and spent most of my time trying out new skincare products in hope that they work. And I always have an interest in science and math as I think they are fun and challenging. This is why I chose to become a skincare formulation chemist as it contains continuous challenges to create skincare products that will actually make a difference on the skin.”

Female scientists have made a tremendous impact in the beauty industry by creating skincare products that are both effective and safe. Their unique understanding and perspective of beauty, combined with their scientific approach, has led to the creation of products that help individuals to look and feel their best. We believe that by continuing to support and recognize the contribution of women in science and beauty, we can help to create a more equitable world where individuals can achieve their full potential and feel confident in their own skin.
